Bucky Barnes x reader

Summary- Sam’s friend, an IT worker for Stark Industries turned new recruit, has a crush on an avenger. Being a good wingman (hehe, get it?) does everything he can to get the reader and Bucky closer, even enlisting the help of other avengers.

It’s almost obnoxious actually.

Pairings: Bucky x Reader (main romance, rest platonic), Sam Wilson x reader, Clint Barton x reader, avengers x reader

TW: Cursing, Sam and Clint being silly, “suicide” but like, it’s a bobs burgers reference (you’ll see)

A/N: I was bored, so I pushed aside EVERY OTHER WIP I should be working on (about eight separate ones), left all my drafts open, completely ignored my old, geriatric ideas, and wrote something off a whim

“And, this is our kitchen, that’s our toaster. The toaster is always broken don’t try to use it,” Sam says. His right arm is on your shoulder, the left gesturing around the room, showing you around he compound.

“Why doesn’t it-” You’re cut off by a man with light brown hair swatting the toaster with his fist.

“You whore! I want my poptart!” He grunts.

“He’s why,” Sam shakes his head, and rolls his eyes. Clint Barton; Hawkeye, Destroyer of toasters.

Clint whips around, disgust evident on his face, “Oh, no, no, no, Sir. Don’t act like I’m suddenly the only one to blame here. Take a look at Mr. Banner and his anger issues, the cyborg, or, better yet Sammy, look in the fucking mirror.”

You decided right then and there that you liked Clint. “Sammy” scowled at Barton, before motioning for you to sit at the table. He had already shown you around the rest of the compound, including your room, making the kitchen your last stop.

As Sam rummaged through the cupboards, Clint sat in a chair across from you, groaning and huffing like an old dad with aching joints (Clint couldn’t be more than in his thirties or fourties’).

“Are you here to fix the toaster?” He asks you, his voice sad and his eyes even sadder. He was like those little animals with big eyes of pleading in Disney films.

“No, I’m sorry. I could try,” you suggest the last part, and he perks up. He sits up straight in his chair, rather than sprawling, and shifted to drumming his hands on the table.

“Met anybody else yet?” He asks, Sam still looking for food with not much luck.

“Nada, just you and Sam,” You say, truthfully. You had honestly expected more traffic, but were just the same grateful to be mostly undisturbed.

“Oh, good, you’re lucky. After us, it all goes down hill,” He “tsk-tsk”’s. “Let’s give you a run down. There’s Bruce and Tony, they’re our brains. They don’t sleep. They’re, like, tier two after Sam and I. Also tier 2, we got Natasha and Wanda. They’re scary. I will not elaborate. Tier 3, Vision, Thor, Rhodes, Spider-Kid. Mostly uneventful around the compound, Visions here the most, other three not as much. Then there’s our senior citizens in the bottom tier. Steve and Bucket. If they were a spice, they’d be flour.”

The way Clint was talking, it felt like the scene in mean girls where Janice and Damien find Cary in the bathroom. You were giggly at his little hand motions and theatrical way of painting the scene.

“What makes you and Sam tier 1?” You ask, Sam coming over with two jars of peanut butter, spoons sticking out of them.

“Birds!” They both yell to each other. When you make a face at Sam’s offer of a jar of peanut butter, Clint takes it right away. You watch in wonder as the two bicker with each other, getting the feeling they were the only ones who found themselves to be “tier 1.”

You had been with the avengers for, say, about 7 months, finding it easy to make friends and have fun between missions and SHIELD duties.

“Well,” Clint was saying to you and Sam, the three of you sitting at the compounds dining table, coloring with crayons on printer paper. “I’m glad you two are having fun, because I am going to kill myself.”

He holds up a poorly manufactured picture of a duck. You all convulge into a set of late night giggles.

It was four am, and you had all just returned early from a mission. After a mission, especially one where you could sleep on the way back, you sometimes found it nice to unwind with your teammates.

As you all tried to compose yourselves, you didn’t even notice someone else enter the kitchen part of the kitchen, not until Sam called out to them that is.

“Hey, Buck, what’s up?”

“Hmm? Nothing. Coffee,” He looked startled, then straight back to basically being dead tired. The bags under his eyes looked like they just took a trip to Costco.

He looks reluctant, and like his mind has to do a lot of mental gymnastics to convince himself to do so, but ultimately he sits down at your table.

You’re drawing a picture of some birds (well, what was supposed to look like birds) in a little bird house. Your heart was beating about 10 decibels faster, and your hands became more unsteady.

Clint and Sam both privately took note of your change in demeanor. The way instead of using circle motions either your crayons, as you had been, you were pressing harder and going up and down. And how you simply just layer them on the table rather than back in the box. And the short sweet glances sent to one new person at the table….

Dead. You promised Clint and Sam they were dead.

At first, you thought it was just a joke. Until the advancements started.

It was Thursday, the team gathering for a dinner, as they did every once in awhile. As soon as you entered the room, you saw Clint and Sam basically playing musical chairs to keep an empty seat open next to Bucky Barnes.

“Are…Are you two okay?” Steve asked, genuine fear and concern on his face.

“Totally.”

“One-hundred percent.”

“Why wouldn’t we be?”

“You’re acting weird captain.”

Steve sits, slack jawed, at a loss for a response. As you walk towards the table, your shoulders are grabbed by Clint, who is saying in a sickeningly sweet and chipper voice, “Y/n! Goodness, great to see you! Sit here! There’s a spot next to Bucky! You know Bucky! You love Bucky!”

You were a *mess* the entire dinner, unable to completely focus on anything but breathing patterns.

As the evening was coming to a close and others were dismissing themselves, you made cold hard eye contact with Clint, seated directly across from you. His hands were folded on the table like an innocent school child.

“Barton,” you said, your voice stern. “Wanna play Chinese Checkers?”

He shakes his head violently, but says, “Sam does too.”

Sam gets up from the table, so fast, his chair knocks over and silverware clatters.

You quickly jump up, chasing him down the hall. Clint follows, brandishing a phone camera, a will, and a way.

The rest of the group was frozen now, looking in bewilderment at what was going on. Or rather, their lack of knowledge of what the hell was going on?

“Anybody have input?” Tony asks after a long silence. Everyone looks equally lost.

They all look when a thud sounds in the direction your trio went.

Bucky and Steve are walking track to their rooms, later that evening. Steve had mission reports to do, and Bucky had thoughts to process and a diary to write in.

“So, what do you think of the new girl?” Steve pokes the bear, hoping to get a rise out of his friend.

“Hmm, oh. I dunno. She’s nice, I guess,” Bucky shrugs, and Steve’s goofy little smile grows like the grinch’s heart.

“Really? Because you look liked you were having an awful lot of thoughts tonight at dinner. And, you know, you stare at her long enough every other day…”

“Do not.”

“Do so.”

Bucky stares at Steve, unknowing of what to do in this situation. He shrugs again.

“So what?”

“So? So you should, oh, I don’t know, have a real conversation with her instead of just breathing into each others general directions. It’s nauseating having to watch Sam and Clint push you guys into the same space.”

Tonight may have been the first time you noticed, but in truth that kind thing happened in many many scenarios. Even before Clint and Sam connected that dots that you liked him.

They wanted their ship to sail.

“You took a shower!?” Clint says to Bucky, in a low and shocked voice. He held an incredulous look on his face, one Bucky wanted to smack right off.

“Yeah, try it sometime,” Bucky quipped.

“Y/n’s in her room,” Clint took a sip of his coffee. She has loads of paperwork. Probably will be in there all day.”

Bucky’s mouth opens and then shuts, not wanting to know why Clint was helping him. In truth, he wasn’t. Clint was helping you.

Within minutes, Bucky was outside your door, giving himself the cutest, peppiest of peptalks. Albeit, in his head because he could not handle the embarrassment of the e door opening to you seeing him babbling like a madman.

So when you did open the door, he tried flashing a warm smile. At the sight of it, you thought you would simply just faint. Right there, thud on the floor.

While your brain was debating whether you would prefer internal or external bleeding of the skull (internal, you decided, wouldn’t mess up your hair) Bucky cleared his throat.

You looked into his blinding blue eyes, the way a deer looks into headlights (meaning any minute you would get hit by the car…)

“Hi,” Bucky breathes out.

“Hi,” you say, your voice cracking.

You wanted to choke yourself out.

“I have something to tell you,” he starts. “Or- or I wanna talk to you.”

“…oh…” FUCKING CHRIST! Oh?? That was the best you had???

“Look, y/n I’ve sorta…I like you, quite a lot. And I’ve been nervous to talk to you or tell you about it, because I really don’t like opening up about my feelings. But-”

You cut him off by pouring out, “Ilikeyoutoo!”

“You- oh…Well…this wasn’t as bad as I had thought then.”

You let out an awkward chuckle, “Yeah, guess not.”

He doesn’t say anything, the two of you staring into each others eyes. He starts to lean in, his perfect face getting closer to yours. The action feels magnetic as you lean closer.

You take in his features. His brow, his chiseled jawline. The symmetrical two sides to his face, like if you took a meat clever down the center, you’d have matching halves.

Just as you can feel his breathe on your lips, right before the two of you can make contact, you both jolt apart at the sound.

Clint falls from your ceiling, Sam landing on top of him. The metal grate that filtrated the air in your room was below them, broken ceiling tiles, pink insulation and regret strewn about your flooring.

“I’m gonna kill you.”

THE THIEVES 💪💪

These guys have been my favorite since 2020, and it wasn’t until the beginning of the year where I felt I was improving on both my art & writing skills where I’d interfere without feeling i’m mischaracterizing the 2

(I actually uploaded some of my recent SM thief stuff 2 tumblr one time,,,buut that was before I decided to restart & delete the 5 year old blog entirety)

(cuz my old stuff from them,,,additionally from 2021 & 2022 where I had a really bad “edgy” phase was NOT good i’ll say that)

most of the headcanons I have written for them are archived somewhere in my now fidget-focused rp account, but I can try & paraphrase most of what I have to present other than roleplay

Barton “Barry” Gómez (Fat Thief), and Eugene “Euan” Gómez (Thin Thief) are the duo thieves of the neighborhood; Barry being 32 and Eugene being 34. They’re both brothers, close ones at that. Even with the 2 year difference it’s always been as if they were the closest friends they could have.

They both were the previous son’s of Richard, 20 years before Roy came along (more than likely in his 50’s now). Richard had another partner before Carmen, but they never got along as well as he hoped..he took it upon himself to take care of both of the boys whenever him & his old girlfriend partner. Barton doesn’t remember much of his mother besides playing with her whenever he was young; Euan only remembers her consistent fighting with Richard most of the time now.

The thieves are unaware of Richard’s new life, having both moving out for collage (and independency mostly) at that early adult age (18/20 respectively for the both of them) they’re both been they’re only source of family sense, being roomies for as long as they can remember with each house/area they move/hide into. The only thing that is known is that Richard’s been having a better life with his new wife..additionally with them not knowing it’s Carmen (more than likely they’ve tried robbing her before) AND not knowing that makes them related to some kid named “Roy” in some way.

It was Eugene who first got into the habit of thievery; with him thinking it would be good financial help for the 2 of them, and just liking the thrill in general. With Barry being the youngest, he ended up picking up that habit alongside him. With how long they’ve been doing it around the neighborhood, it was surprising to hear them both getting relatively popular under local news reports..only having full realization after someone deliberately order a heist for them to hit off. AKA: the RUMORED CULT hiring them to rummage through the attic of a house they’ve already failed stealing from. They already had good enough of a grip of how dangerous the group could be; given how they escaped jail in the first place with help from famous Bob Velseb; the reanimated cannibal that was ALIVE because of the cult (they didn’t have that great of a relationship with him in-and-out of the prison..) Barry was more unsure on the deal, not wanting to be wrapped deep under more garbage for the future. Eugene? They were paying good, he couldn’t let go of that offer (it would’ve payed off they’re apartment bills🎉🎉) Alongside the duo they were hired with the Candydealer, him acting more as some information giver-mentor hybrid for the two. Trying to keep them in order from fear or hesitation so they don’t “run out of luck”

Barton is a Gay man, & Euan is Bisexual as well btw 🫡🫡

I'm new-ish to writing (i used to write fanfiction when i was like 13. i'm 19 now and write very rarely) but I really wanna do it again.

So this is a list of characters/fandoms I write for as well as some rules for asks. Some things may be missing from this list so if you dont see something on this list, feel free to ask. :))

Do add as much detail as you want to a request and please ALWAYS have at least some sort of prompt, as i'm really not good with coming up with storys on my own yet.

I've been rewatching 2009 and 2010 Emmerdale, and I'm again reminded of how good it was. Firstly, Danny's performance was absolutely incredible. He 100% deserved the praise he got for his performance. I also love how Gavin Blyth brought back the farming aspect and really focused on the community feel of the show. Like I ended up caring about the more 'minor' characters, simply because of their relationships and interactions with other characters. Ryan Lamb for example was a little boring on his own and he didn't have a lot of interesting storylines, but I liked his interactions with other characters, like Aaron. Same with Jackson, they actually showed him getting to know people outside of Aaron. I think that's what the show is missing at the moment. Honestly, if the show wins best soap again I'll be kind of annoying, because honestly I really think Eastenders or Hollyoaks have been better as a whole recently. I would say I'm more of an Emmerdale fan typically, but both shows have more continuity at the moment, as well as more of a community feel. Emmerdale is kind of shambles at the moment.

It truly was a different era back then. The show is so soulless these days compared to 2009/10, when there was so much more community interaction. What little community interaction they have these days tends to feel highly calculated or just a desperate attempt for comedy.

The Jackson stuff you mention, is definitely something I can't really see happening now, or if it did, it wouldn't feel the same. Like for example, someone like Marcus came in and all of a sudden everyone had electrical problems for him to fix so he did technically interact with some people in the village but they were all weird plot points in his and Ethan's story and didn't really let the audience get to know Marcus very much and didn't lead to anyone having any kind of feeling toward Marcus one way or another. Even though he was interacting with a bunch of people at the start, he never felt like part of that community and when he left, literally no one even noticed.

I don't even like Jackson that much, but he felt like part of that community even before his accident. Having him work for Declan, and not just coincidentally, but because Aaron had a best friend desperate to help his mate out, was great, because it gave him a friendship with Declan, which carried through to his accident when Declan let him and Hazel have the house he had been working on and later on through Declan finding out that Jackson had died and being genuinely sad about it. That thread of friendship would never exist these days. And Hazel too genuinely connected to people in the village, with working at the cafe and sort of dating Bob and teaching art classes at the village hall etc. These people were genuinely part of the community and people cared when they were gone.

With Marcus, it's like...they had to give him everyone's favorite plot friend, Victoria, just for someone for him to talk to because he had no one in that village aside from Ethan otherwise.

I always think about the Barton family coming in too. They had no secret pasts with anyone. They were just new characters coming in and it was so refreshing compared to now. And I loved the stuff with Moira working at the pub and her interactions with Marlon and Diane. I miss people working at the pub that weren't just Chas. Haha.

I mean I miss the pub being a central hub for the show, period. It's starting to get back to it a little, which is nice but it's been very slow going and it really hurts the show. There were just so many great interactions in the pub in the old days and now it just still feels dead or mostly Dingles. It's a shame.

(also because there's spoilers for all of professor layton and for all of psychonauts, but hey)

To start off: Characters who I know or at least can assign tentatively.

(this is mostly the main characters tbh. A few extras seeped through)

Luke is Raz. Both are sonboy incarnate, have strained relations with their father, and have some sort of power that most people around them don't understand.

Flora is Lili. I'm saying this partially for the name joke, partially because I think Flora deserves to be a bit angry about everything that happens to her. Her dad is still alive in this au, too! wow! reinholts stay winning i guess!

Claire is Ford. I know that's not what's expected but I really, REALLY want to talk about Claire and I think that her mind could have such an interesting time theming throughout that you have to contend with-- past/present/future, mainly. Plus, she's morally a little gray already.

Hershel is Lucy. Yes, I know, it doesn't really fit, but imagine the emotions here. Also, this gives me an excuse to have him being Luke's mentor throughout his life and for the two of them to have a very close bond as a sort of family. (Plus, he's already taken the name of a sibling in canon, just like Lucy did.) Additionally, everyone would probably fall apart without him.

Don Paulo is Otto. This is partially for the memes, partially for the serious fact that they're both brilliant inventors who probably had a Thing for Ford/Claire. Also, both would give dangerous inventions to children, no holds barred, give the boy a flying machine just 'cuz.

Randall is Bob. This is specifically him for a few reasons: One, although his main storyline does align with Helmut ("dying but not really, coming back, thinking he failed everyone") his other storyline of being mad about losing the ones he cares about to the point of making it EVERYONE'S PROBLEM is very much a Bob thing.

Angela is Helmut. It's unfortunate, but at the same point I genuinely cannot find much information on her as a person and it's kinda annoying. PL series treat your women better please. On that note: Being romantically involved with Randall, being one of the more positive forces in the lives of the others, caring about other people's safety... Yeah.

Henry is Cassie, sort of. This is where it gets a little messy. I say this mostly because he went to Green Needle Gulch to keep an eye on Randall, not because he did anything in particular. However, he's still trying too hard to fix everything up for when Angela, Hershel, Claire, and Randall are back in shape, cleaning up everything a bit too much. His archetypes are everywhere, but they're more like dust clouds than archetypes-- desperate to clean up the mess but just making more mess.

I've been tossing around Dimitri as Compton as well, but i can also see someone suggesting almost anyone else here. I'm saying Dimitri solely because I personally adore Unwound Future, though. No real reason.

For Sasha and Milla, I've been kind of joking that they're Sammy Thunder and Katia. This is, yet again, mostly because I enjoy Diabolical Box a lot. Plus, they're one of the best duos in the series, other than Chelmey and Barton. There's nothing romantic here because they're cousins, but they got the standard "fun music-lover and serious thinker" dichotomy for it.

Since Luke is Raz, Clark is Augustus. Both tend to throw themselves into their work during times of stress, and they don't exactly listen to their kids the best, but by god they're trying so hard to be good dads, and they have to let their sons go to learn more.

Additional pieces I've thought about include that Luke calls Hershel "Uncle Des," the battle that wrecked the psy7 was only 10-15 years ago here, and that everyone's powers are definitely gonna be mixed up. Also, Luke's not cursed! That's just "Uncle Des" thinking that something is definitely amiss whenever he feels something psychic around. No curse here.

Chapter 7

To say the hormone medication you and Natasha were taking messed with your moods was putting it mildly.  Interestingly, they did affect each of you differently.  Natasha was mostly just really tired while she was on them.  It was weird seeing her like that, and much to her displeasure, Steve stopped sending her on missions because she was having trouble focusing.  She had started napping in the middle of the day, and Clint had an almost ongoing supply of heat pads that went from the microwave to Natasha and back.

You, on the other hand, were going through wild mood swings.  You weren’t easily annoyed exactly, but you would go from being extremely excitable to crying at the drop of a hat.

Clint, to his credit, was doing his best to be a supportive and caring boyfriend and friend.  He gave all the injections.  He tried not to be annoying.  He was organizing meals for both of you, even if most of the time, that meant take-out from one of three places in the nearby town.  He didn't quite know what to do when you randomly started crying, but he tried to soothe you as best he could.

Halfway through the first month and you had terrible stomach pain and decided that you were staying in bed.  Pain was usually fleeting for you, and the cramps you were suffering from just felt like more than you could handle if you also had to participate in society.

You texted Clint and Natasha to tell them how you were feeling and that you weren't coming around today, and they showed up an hour later with heat packs and a stack of chocolate chip pancakes.

“Here you go,” Clint said, handing you the plate of pancakes.  “I’ll go warm up some heat packs for you both.”

“Oh god, Nat,” Clint said, bringing in the heat packs. “I was only gone for a minute, and you managed to make her cry.”

“It’s okay,” you said.  “It was happy tears.”

Clint climbed into the bed on your other side and gave each of you heat packs.

“You both just gonna spend the day in bed with me?”  You asked.

“Sure,” Clint said.  “Thought we could watch movies and eat comfort food.”

You started crying again, and Natasha laughed softly and rubbed your back.  “Now you made her cry too,” she teased.

“Aww, babe,” Clint soothed, putting his arm around your shoulders.  “We don’t have to stay.  We thought you might like someone taking care of you.”

“I do,” you sobbed.  “You’re such good friends.”

Their travel mugs now filled with steaming coffee, both women turned to leave the kitchen, but not before Natasha turned slightly and looked right at the cover disguising the vent where Clint was perched, raising her eyebrows.

Of course, she knew I was here the whole time, Clint thought with a flash of wry amusement, damn woman knows everything.

His prank completely forgotten for the time being, he slid from his hiding place and scratched his head thoughtfully, frowning slightly at the stray cobweb that clung to the strands of hair under his fingers.

He needed a shower, and then he needed to think about seducing a tiny medic.

Bella had been completely serious when she’d admitted to Nat that she had a bit of a thing for the dirty-blond archer. In fact, she’d had a crush on him since she’d first met him, and it had made patching him up post-mission just a little awkward for her the few times he’d needed her to.

He’d put her at ease just by being himself though, cracking jokes and making her smile as she tended to him and whoever else might need it.

Natasha had been the first member of the team to invite Bella for coffee, taking a liking to the shy medic who had nerves of steel when it came to her job. Not many people could stand their ground against Tony, or be around Bruce without giving him fearful looks.

Then gradually she’d spent more and more time with the rest of the team, eventually being able to call them all friends. Even Thor, who’d intimidated the hell out of her the first time she’d been there for one of his visits until she realised he was a big softy when it came to the people he cared about.

The only person who was able to make her nervous now was Clint, though she wasn’t planning on admitting that. It didn’t help that something had changed recently, he was acting differently around her.

She had even asked Natasha if she’d mentioned anything to Clint about their conversation in the kitchen a couple of weeks before, but the former spy had just smirked and sworn up and down that she hadn’t said a word.

He just kept going sending panty dropping smiles her way, leaving her with a tingly warm feeling that made her heart stutter and her thighs clench each time it happened. It was getting harder to act normally around him.

Glancing across the room, Bella’s eyes automatically found him, and she inhaled sharply watching him tilt a beer bottle to his lips, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed. Oh god, he’s hot.

The team had come back that day from successfully clearing a Hydra base with no injuries, and while Jarvis was sifting through the mountains of files they had acquired Tony had decided they should have a small celebration.

Unusually for Tony, he’d kept it small and not too extravagant. It was mostly just the team and any of their partners, plus a few people from the tower that they were close to, so it was pretty casual, especially now it was getting quite late. Everyone was there just letting their hair down and relaxing for a while.

“Watch it; you’ve got a little drool.”

Bella jumped and turned to half-heartedly swat at the laughing redhead who easily dodged her.

“You’re getting a bit obvious girl,” Natasha grinned, “And for that matter, so is he.”

“Huh? No way, he just likes to flirt a little,” Bella protested, trying not to get her hopes up despite the warm feeling Natasha’s words were giving her.

“I swear, you’re an idiot, a loveable idiot,” She rolled her eyes fondly, deciding to give her friends a helping hand, “Do you see him looking at anyone else like he’s wishing he could strip them naked with his eyes? He wants you. Trust me, I know Clint.”

“But…” Bella faltered, her wide eyes showing her vulnerability. There’s no way.

Somehow understanding what she was thinking, Natasha sighed and patted Bella’s arm lightly before turning to walk away, tossing one last comment over her shoulder.

“Trust me… and just so you know, he’s not a one night kind of guy.”

Bella swallowed heavily then took a sip of the beer she was holding to combat her suddenly dry mouth.

Somehow Clint had picked that exact moment to catch her eye, giving her the exact ‘naked wishes’ look Nat had described, and though she knew there was no way he could have heard what Nat had been saying Bella couldn’t help the blush that spread across her cheeks.

Clint’s lips quirked into a half smile, his eyebrows rising slightly as he looked across the room at the short brunette who was blushing prettily. Not for the first time, he wondered where that blush would spread to and he couldn’t resist a wink and a slow smirk around the top of the bottle as he drank.

Bella was glad Nat had gone to flirt with Bruce, who was endearingly oblivious as usual. At least she wasn’t there to witness Bella faltering as she tried not to give any outward signs of the effect he was having on her.

She was dying. She really was going to spontaneously combust and die.

All because of the man currently sat with his arm around her, his thumb lightly tracing back and forth over a small strip of exposed skin near her hip where her shirt had ridden up slightly.

The party had wound down and the core team were grouped together on the sofas off to the side of the room, drinking and laughing. Bella had switched to soda after a couple of beers, knowing she was a lightweight but was still enjoying herself.

Somehow she’d ended up squashed next to Clint on the sofa, and she wasn’t sure which was worse; the heated looks across the room or the tingling warmth down her side where she was pressed against him.

Then he had shifted suddenly, moving his arm so that it rested behind her instead of in between them, making Bella’s eyes shoot to his face. To her surprise, she’d found him looking down at her with an easy grin, his arm curling around her.

Somehow he was reducing her to a gooey mess, doing something that could still be considered innocent, while being able to appear completely focused on the conversation around them. Damn secret super assassin training.

She was terrible at hiding her emotions. In fact, right now she was sure it was written all over her face that she wanted nothing more than to be utterly ruined in all the best ways by the man next to her.

Judging by the slightly smug grin on Natasha’s face it appeared that assumption was correct, and Bella wondered if the only reason Tony hadn’t said anything was because he currently appeared to be very distracted by a tipsy Pepper.

Finally reaching her breaking point and feeling in desperate need of either a cold shower or some serious alone time, Bella carefully got up and excused herself, quickly saying goodnight to the group and completely missing the significant look Nat gave Clint.

Clint smirked at the look Nat gave him as she mouthed the words go get your girl. Her meddling was as amusing as it was beneficial. Few people would ever guess just how soft-hearted she was deep down when it came to the people she cared about.

Giving her a subtle mock-salute, he got up and followed behind Bella ignoring the curious glances he got from a few of the others.

She was leaning against the wall waiting for the elevator when he caught up to her, and the look somewhere between startled and shy and hopeful that crossed her face absolutely melted him.

Before he could second guess himself, he was standing right in front of her. Their bodies close enough that each inhale of breath made her chest push up against his almost teasingly.

Bracing one hand against the wall next to her head, Clint lightly cupped her neck with the other, his thumb resting on her cheek. He could feel her heart thumping, racing under his fingertips and it made him grin slightly.

“Am I making you nervous, little swan?”

His voice was low and sultry, stirring up a wave of desire that crashed through her as he stroked his thumb across her cheek, his body pressing deliciously against hers.

The small needy sound that bubbled up from her throat would have embarrassed her, if Clint wasn’t now pressing her tighter to the wall, his hands running almost possessively down her sides and over her hips.

“Feels like we’ve been dancing around each other, but if you don’t want this, say the word now,” He murmured, his lips brushing her ear as he leaned down to speak.

A literal shiver ran from her head to her feet at the look he was giving her and Bella had to shake her head slightly to clear enough to give him the reply he was clearly waiting for.

“What word would that be?” She breathed meeting his gaze steadily, a slightly cheeky smile lighting up her face, “I don’t want to say it by accident.”

“Fuck woman,” Clint groaned, “What you do to me.”

The sudden kiss was gentle but no less intense for it, and Bella’s eyes nearly rolled in her head at the feel and taste of him.

A small squeak escaped her as one of his hands tangled in her hair and cupped the back of her head while the other landed far less innocuously on her ass.

“Too much?” Clint murmured against her lips.

“No… definitely no,” Bella replied, a faint blush lighting her cheeks even as she fisted her small hand in the front of his shirt in an effort to prevent him from moving away.

“Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere,” Clint grinned teasingly, backing away and sliding a hand down her arm to entangle his fingers with hers.

“Where we’re going, though, is away from this corridor. Unless you particularly want Tony to find us here, nosy bastard that he is.”

Bella giggled, squeezing his fingers lightly and reverting to his last name like they usually did when they were joking with each other.

“You trying to get me alone, Barton?”

“I’ve already managed to get you alone sweetheart, what I’m trying to do now is stop myself from just throwing you over my shoulder and taking you to my bed caveman style.”

Another one of those head to foot shivers. She was certain that Clint had noticed it this time too, judging by the amused glint in his eyes.

The slight strained tremor of his hand belied his teasing humour though, and Bella realised he hadn’t exactly been joking.

The small soft sound that left her throat was the last straw for Clint and the tension finally snapped when he turned and headed for the lift without another word, gently tugging Bella along with him.

Bella was quiet while he requested Jarvis to take them to his floor, his husky voice doing things to her insides.

Neither of them said anything else as the doors opened and he led her a little way down the corridor. Feeling sure her heart was pounding loudly enough for Clint to hear it, Bella watched him open his door, her heart actually stuttering then at the smile he gave her.

The room was neat unsurprisingly, with a large TV and a comfy looking couch with a thick blanket folded over the back of it. One wall held several bows, quivers full of arrows and a wide array of other weapons and just to the side of it there was a short workbench nearby, a bow and several tools resting on top of it.

On the other side of the room there was a small kitchenette area and in the wall between that and his work area them there were two doors leading to a bathroom and bedroom. The door to the latter was slightly open and a warm glow came from a lamp, illuminating the room softly.

Her gaze fell on his large neatly made bed and that light dusting of red spread across her cheeks again, prompting Clint to gently brush his knuckles down the flushed skin, enjoying the way her breathing hitched at his touch.

“Blushing again?” He grinned, “What exactly were you thinking to blush like that just from looking at my bed?”

“As if you don’t know Barton,” Bella snorted softly.

“You really need to go back to calling me Clint,” He murmured in reply, “Because it’s just gonna just sound really odd if you scream Barton once I’m between your thighs.”

“Oh,” Bella didn’t have time to gape at him for long.

It took little more than a second for him to pull her against his chest, his head ducking to kiss her thoroughly while she was dimly aware of moving backwards until her legs hit the edge of his bed.

“Don’t forget, just say the word little swan.” Clint broke the kiss and looked at her seriously.

“If you’re planning on being between my thighs shouldn’t you be calling me by my name?” She was aiming for teasing, but the words came out more breathless sounding than anything.

“Okay, Bella.”

The way he said her name should be illegal Bella thought, and she pushed up on her toes to kiss him again, moaning softly when his hand twisted in her hair, holding her against his lips.

Her last coherent thought was that she really was going to spontaneously combust.

Kari’s MCU Summer Writing Challenge

Hi y’all. Summer is finally here so it’s time for a challenge. I chose to use a few different types of prompts this time. There are 15 word prompts, 15 songs and 15 dialogue prompts. You have to use your prompt. So if you pick a song or a word it’s not enough to mention it. You have to somehow focus the fic around the lyrics (you don’t have to quote them but use the theme) or the dialogue/word prompt.  You only have to pick one prompt per fic and one pairing off the list. I hope you wanna play and have some fun with me this summer :D

It’s Hawkeye’s fault, really.

That’s sort of an ongoing theme in Bucky’s life these days. He has never met anyone else so incredibly and unerringly attracted to bullshit drama - even compared to Steve - and, unlike Steve, Clint never even hesitates to drag other people into his mess.

It’s probably terrible that Bucky finds that a little bit comforting. It’s hard to seem like the biggest fuck-up in the room when you’re sharing that room with Clint Barton.

“This is a fucking disaster,” Bucky mutters, mostly to himself but still distinctly loud enough for Clint to hear.

“You know, you complain a lot for someone who was a mindless killing machine for like a century,” Hawkeye replies from up ahead, because tact is apparently for other people.

“Gotta make up for the years I missed,” Bucky says, instead of fuck you fuck you fuck you. That century mellowed him. “Forgive me for not wanting to be stuck underground with you.”

“With me, in particular? Ouch. Who’s your prefered tunnel-buddy?” Clint asks. “Oh, wait, Steve. Duh.”

“Hulk,” Bucky corrects. “Instant open-air tunnel. I always thought trains should be above ground, not below it.”

Clint gives him an almost-concerned look that Bucky can only just make out. “This isn’t triggering for you, is it?”

Bucky rolls his eyes. “You think I’d be dumb enough to get in a subway tunnel if I was scared of trains?”

“Okay, being triggered by something isn’t necessarily the same as being scared of something, but I’m not your therapist. Also, forgive me for thinking for a second there that the dude who died falling off a train might have some unspoken issues about trains.”

“I didn’t die,” Bucky corrects, because it annoys him when people say that. He didn’t come back from the dead, he’s been around the whole goddamn time. “And you’re right, you're not my therapist, so shut the fuck up.”

“Rude,” Clint mutters, but he does fall silent. That’s unusual for him, but maybe he’s embarrassed about the train thing. “We’re not far off. Start hoping for an easy egress point.”

They’re down here because Clint pissed off Steve enough to send him - and therefore Bucky, his current field partner - to work alongside the field agents on the ground, and then pissed off the CO enough to be sent underground to cover the underside of what is a battle with a group of robots. There’s not much chance they’ll drop below street level, which would be a blessing for most people but is annoying to Bucky. He has some pent up aggression he wouldn’t mind unleashing onto a laser-wielding robot or twelve.

There’s some noise that isn’t Clint up ahead, and Bucky squints into the dark. Clint has a flashlight, the circle of light from which is bobbing back and forth across the floor and walls. Bucky’s low-light vision is pretty good - hence why he’s not carrying a flashlight himself - but all he can tell is that it’s not a robot. In his experience, they’re not that subtle.

After a moment the sound gets a little louder, and the shape of it coalesces into something recognisable.

“Ugh, rat,” Clint mutters, right as said rat skitters past him and then Bucky, within a few inches of Bucky’s boot.

The little Winter-Soldier-processing voice in his head says, Rattus norvegicus, 9 inches. The Bucky-Barnes voice says, oh fuck.

He’s not proud. He freezes solid.

Clint continues on for a few metres before realising that Bucky isn’t moving. “Barnes?”

His voice doesn’t quite cover the movements Bucky can hear, little paws on metal and concrete, getting closer. Furry little bodies and sharp teeth. That is, of course, because it’s in Bucky’s head. That doesn’t mean he can shake it.

“Bucky?” Clint asks again, this time from much closer, although not inside of arm’s reach. Smart. “You’re okay.”

Bucky half-heartedly reaches up to cover his ears, and then stops himself. There’s no point.

“Hey,” Clint says, from closer again - not so smart, yet not surprising - and then reaches out with both hands to cover Bucky’s ears himself. They’re warm, and although hands in general aren’t good at blocking out sound, they do break Bucky out of his stupor a little. “What’s your status?” His voice comes over the earpiece Bucky is wearing, the doubling a more distant muttering through flesh.

“Great,” Bucky lies like a rug. He hisses when Clint jostles him. “Not much of an alternative, Hawkeye. There’s robots.”

Clint says, “Right hand.”

Bucky raises the aforementioned hand and replaces Clint’s palm over his own ear. A moment later, there’s fingers at his belt in the pocket he keeps earplugs in. Bucky submits to Clint pulling out his earpiece and inserting the earplugs with brisk easy movements.

With them in place, he can’t hear anything besides the impression of his quick-tripping heart, the rush of air into his lungs. It’s better. Not great, but better.

Clint moves so their eyes meet in the dimness, and signs, Status? Bucky nods back.

Clint takes him at that, pointing back over his shoulder in the direction they were heading. He signs, Stay close, presumably because he’ll now hear anything coming long before Bucky does. It’s ironic, and not in a good way.

Bucky breathes in and then exhales in a rush, the noise a whitewash. Then he slips in at Clint’s back, and follows.

The embarrassment - that comes later.

They’re back on the quinjet, tired but cheerfully rowdy after an uncomplicated victory with minimal collateral damage. Well, most of them: Bucky is in his head more than usual, stuck back in that frozen moment.

He’s still - scared, sometimes. In ways that surprise him even now. He’s had enough therapy to understand that that’s normal, and that, if he was a completely catatonic wreck, he’d be entitled to that, too. Instead, he’s mostly well in the ways that matter, and he’s out here with a purpose, fear or no fear.

He gets nightmares, and he has triggers - unfamiliar male voices speaking Russian, sudden uncontrolled falling, or the texture of liquid food products - but they get him when he’s alone, or at night, or lost in crowds of strangers.

It’s different to feel that sticky fearful moment when it counts. Usually Bucky is all professionalism on the job. Except all it took was a rodent, and he cracked.

It’s not good enough. He’s not good enough, and he’s always had a sneaking suspicion that that was the case, but he didn’t expect to have it proved to him like this.

So, he’s quiet. He can feel the flickering attention of the others, on him and then off again, but he can mostly ignore it. It’s Clint’s eyes that he feels more than most, because Steve had asked them when they met at the ‘jet whether everything had gone smoothly - with only a fraction of smug satisfaction - and Clint hadn’t mentioned Bucky’s fuck-up at all, and Bucky has no idea what to do with that.

When the ‘jet touches down, Steve stands and resecures the shield on his back. “Right. Debrief in ten.” Everyone groans, though Steve is predictably unmoved. “The sooner we do it, the sooner it’s over with, people. Ten minutes.”

Most of them stop via the locker room, Bucky included. He slips off his jacket - heavy kevlar in navy, not black leather (Stark had looked taken aback and then amused at the idea of leather, and then had lectured Bucky about how wearing proper bullet-proof body armour is better than looking ‘hot’ but getting gutshot, ignoring that Bucky hadn’t chosen his old gear) - but leaves his uniform pants on with an undershirt. His weapons he stows, besides the ones he always keeps on him.

“Hey, Buck,” Steve says, slinging his helmet into his own locker. Bucky really should have seen this coming. “Alright?”

“Fine,” Bucky replies, only slightly through his teeth. It’s not that he wants to tell Steve, but he can’t shake the feeling that he should, except for that Clint didn’t, and he’s technically the senior agent - fuck it. “Debrief?”

“Sure,” Steve accepts easily, though Bucky knows well enough that it may or may not be an attempt at lulling him into a sense of security for when Steve asks the same question again later.

Bucky is walking through the conference room door when a hoodie-wearing Hawkeye bumps him and mutters, hurriedly, “Are you pissed at me?” under his breath.

His expression is so genuinely concerned that Bucky immediately replies, “No?” It’s true, anyway. He doesn’t know what he is, but it isn’t angry. Clint nods a little and then takes his seat between Widow and Falcon, leaning companionably into Natasha’s shoulder until she shoves him back.

The debrief itself goes smoothly - even the predictable bickering is kept to a minimum. It’s only a half-hour before they’re released. Most of the others head for the main kitchen to eat, but Bucky ducks into his rooms and showers to avoid the rush. Once he’s clean and dressed down in sweatpants, he collapses on his back on his half-made bed with the thought that he’ll nap for a half-hour. The next thing he knows, his stomach is waking him as it tries to devour itself. His phone, when he gropes for it amongst the blankets, says it’s after ten at night.

If not for his body demanding sustenance, he’d probably roll over and go back to sleep, but the need for calories outweighs his desire to stay in bed. Cursing himself for not at least getting a snack before his shower - his metabolism, like Steve’s, requires very regular calorie-dense meals - he digs out a clean shirt and makes for the kitchen.

The upside of it being late is that it’s empty - or, Bucky realises, nearly empty. Clint is sitting up on the back of the couch in the adjoining lounge, his feet on the cushions as he watches the muted television and eats out of bowl in his lap.

“You didn’t tell Steve,” Bucky says, and Clint nearly hits the roof.

“Jesus fuck!” he says, whirling around. “Christ, Barnes, make noise when you move, I’m begging you.”

“You’re wearing your aids.” Bucky checked. They’re a sleek metallic purple, easy to spot.

“I need more than them to hear you creeping around,” Clint mutters, resettling himself on the back of the couch so he’s facing Bucky, feet bumping swinging gently below him. It looks like he’s eating cereal, of all things. “What didn’t I tell Steve about?”

Bucky gives him a speaking look. Clint stares back at him blankly, brow furrowed. Bucky sighs.

“I lost it today,” he says.

“What!” Clint squawks, breathing in sharply. “When?”

“...in the tunnel?” Now Bucky is confused, too.

“Oh, that? That’s not ‘losing it’, Barnes, jeez.”

“I froze, whatever,” Bucky corrects unwillingly. “Got ‘triggered’.” That last word he says through his teeth.

Clint blinks. “Yeah? I mean, yeah, you did. For like a minute. Then you were fine. You’re fine, right?”

“Yes?” Fuck, Bucky, that’s not a question. “Yes.”

“I don’t get why you think I’d tattle on you for that.”

Because for that minute I wasn’t doing my job. Bucky is always painfully aware of the things that he does with the Avengers are things he’s been allowed to do in exchange for forgiveness. The Avengers themselves don’t think of it like that, he doesn’t think, but Bucky knows the wider world does. They’re right to, probably. The things he did, it wasn’t him in control, but he sleeps better at night knowing the things he does here edge him further out of the red, one life at a time.

He’s not going to tell Clint that. though. He shrugs, heading for the cupboard. Late-night cereal sounds kind of disgusting, but at this point it’s a choice between eating that or eating something else raw.

“It was the rat, right?” Clint asks thoughtfully, through a mouthful. Bucky twitches. “Lots of people are scared of them.”

“I’m not ‘lots of people’,” Bucky returns.

“Nah. You’re pretty brave,” Clint replies. Bucky, surprised, accidentally scrapes a spoon across his bowl with a sharp noise. “I don’t like snakes much.”

“Snakes can kill you.”

“So can rats. Wasn’t the plague still around when you were a kid?” Clint says, which is the worst attempt at an age-related joke Bucky has ever heard.

“Not quite,” Bucky replies. “We did have rats, though. Used to hear ‘em in the walls at night, some of the nastier places we lived. In the war, too - anywhere you got food or bodies, you got rats. I never liked ‘em, even when I was little, but once you’ve had one run across your face while you’re bedded down asleep in the forest, you can’t help but hate them.”

Clint’s face is squashed up in disgust. “Yuck.”

“Yeah,” Bucky agrees. His skin is crawling just thinking about it, though it’s not really the sight of them that gets to him.

In Azzano, there’d been dozens of them down in the cells. Then Bucky had been tied to a table for days while he was experimented on, forced to listen to the scratching and scrabbling right at the edge of his hearing between ‘treatments’, waiting for the feeling of sharp little teeth getting at his exposed skin while he couldn’t do anything but let it happen -

“Still,” he says, swallowing. “Not something worth losing it over. That’s why I was surprised.”

Clint pushes himself off the couch, coming to lean on the breakfast bar across from Bucky. “The way I see it, nothing happened.”

“I,” Bucky replies. “You had to -”

“What? Watch your back?” Clint asks. “Hate to break it to you, but we’re partners. That’s kind of my job.”

“I wasn’t watching your back.”

“For like ten seconds,” Clint scoffs. “Besides, that’s teamwork. None of us are at the top of our game one hundred percent of the time. Even for us, it’s only about ninety-two, ninety-three percent. So the rest of the time, you get your teammates to help you out.”

“I need to,” Bucky starts, and then stops himself with a mouthful of cereal, despite that he’s lost his appetite.

“What, be perfect all the time? Hate to break it to you, babe, but not even you can manage that.”

Bucky coughs. “Babe?”

Clint ignores this, though the tops of his ears pink up a little. “It was nothing. Don’t even worry about it. This way, when you have to cover my ass at some point, we’ll be even. Uh, not that you owe me - you know what I mean.”

“You mean you’re not perfect?” Bucky says without thinking. Even as the words emerge from his mouth, the tone surprises him - he’s flirting.

Clint blinks, equally surprised, but Bucky won’t take it back. Fuck it, Clint called him babe, he can probably deal with a bit of flirting.

“Maybe ninety-eight percent of the time,” Clint says after a moment. “That’s why I keep you around. The other two percent.”

Bucky’s relationship with his body and the things he can do is complicated by his history, but it’s still his. He shrugs. “That’s what I’m good for.”

“That, and I trust you,” Clint continues. “So if that’s what you’re worried about, don’t.”

This time it’s Bucky who blinks, dumbstruck. “That’s…” Not what I’m worried about. Except that it is, and he just didn’t realise, and Clint has just cut straight to the heart of the matter with that weird clear-headedness he always has for everyone except himself.

“That seems like a bad idea,” Bucky says eventually.

“I don’t know,” Clint says, with an awkward little shrug of one shoulder. “It’s worked out for me one hundred percent of the time so far.”

Bucky just kind of...stares at him. Clint, whose ears are now definitely pink, doesn’t look away, though he fidgets a bit.

“Thanks,” Bucky says eventually.

“Don’t thank me,” Clint mutters immediately. “It’s the truth.”

Bucky reaches out and stops his hand where it’s restlessly stirring the leftover milk in his bowl. “I meant for in the tunnel.”

Clint looks down at Bucky’s fingers on his hand, then back to Bucky’s face, but he doesn’t move away. “You’re welcome?”

“I trust you, too,” Bucky says, and takes the smile this earns him like it’s sunshine.

(The title means nothing in particular other than I couldn't use my working one.)

The sky shimmered as the sun peaked out over the spiked skyline, glinting off the glass and rainbowing a varying spray of blues, yellows, oranges, and pinks on the clouds.

It was a beautiful sight.

Peter groaned miserably.

“Fuck,” Clint hissed as he wrapped another one of Peter’s many wounds in haphazard gauze.

As it was, Clint was the least injured of them, and he was covered in bandages and bruises. Sure, some of those he had started with, but he was hardly in any shape to be playing field nurse.

Peter used his good leg to kick to kick Clint away, “Go help Daredevil,” his breath hitches as Clint tapes down the edge of his makeshift bandage, “He doesn’t have a healing factor. I do. Leave. Me. Alone.”

“Goddammit,” Clint growls slapping at Peter’s ankle, “You’re going to bleed out- Stop- Stop kicking me!!”
